Recently Biking has gained more and more fans, either as a sport activity or as a social activity.

Biking became so popular such that many types of biking and bikes have evolved such as road, mounting, dirt, hybrid bikes, and more. Each bicycle has its distinction. Each type has its own design, with it sown emphasis. Also many vendors and brands are available, such as Raleigh or Giant brands.

The vast inventory of bikes makes it difficult and confusing to make a decision with regard to what kind of bicycle to purchase, specifically for beginners.

In a former article I tried to give a short introduction to Mountain bikes. The underline distinction was that the mountain models are designed for robustness, in order to withstand the hard terrain conditions. This article is about hybrid bikes. As implied by its name, a hybrid type is to some extent a combination of two types of bikes, specifically mountain and road bikes.

For beginners, who stand helpless in front a bicycle shop and can not make their mind, a hybrid bike might be the right choice. All bicycles used to fall under 2 common categories – mountain bike and road bike. The mountain bicycle is meant for rough terrain riding, while the road bike is meant for smoother roads.

There are many types of bike frames in the market, and the frame on a hybrid can vary greatly. However, most hybrids are targeted at the “leisure riding” group. So prices are quite affordable. Most of the bicycles are built with aluminum. Aluminum is an affordable material that can be easily engineered into durable frames. Unfortunately, such frames are usually heavier and less stiff, which leads to power loss.

If budget permits, take a look at hybrids that are made from carbon fiber frames. Such bikes can cost thousands of dollars, but once you own one, you won’t want to own another hybrid bike.

The carbon hybrid is the cream of the crop. It’s one of the lightest building material around, and it offers very good power transfer capabilities. That means every pedal and every ounce of energy comes from you is put into good use.

Most people would think of bicycle wheels as just round objects that allow bicycles to roll. Well, present day bicycle wheels are a lot more than that. Today’s bicycles are as different as the functions and the interests of its riders and have also been made to suit their respective needs.

BMX Wheels, which are made for performing tricks, are wider and shorter than mountain bike wheels to provide better grip and more maneuverability. The treads are also ideal for dirt surfaces and jumps and the rims are usually made from aluminum. Prices of BMX bicycle wheels start at $35 and up.

Hybrid Wheels are designed for off-road and paved surfaces. The tread on hybrid bicycle wheels cut into the surface of the tires to allow less drag on pavements but still has enough grip on loose soil. It is thinner than mountain bike wheels but a little bit thicker compared to street wheels.
