We used to carry Giant, and they are known for quality, though it's gone down since the 1990s.

If you want to spend more money and get something a little better, the Trek Navigator 2.0 is also good for comfort. Or the Trek Soho is an excellent hybrid as well. But the Giant Sedona is good, it's up to you.
References :
I'm the chief bicycle mechanic/assistant manager in the family business of nearly 20 years.

The Sedona sounds about what you want. It doesn't have the knobby tires that are pain on the road but good for the trails. All of the bike manufactures will have a version of this bike. These bikes have a more upright seating then the mountain bike.

Here is what I bought.

Just bought the Giant Sedona DX about a month ago and really am enjoying it.Very comfortable and easy to ride.Great on trails or pavement.Has a hybrid tire for different surfaces. So much more comfortable of a sitting position compared to a mountain bike but at the same time it looks pretty much like a mountain bike.
