Is it possible to convert a mountain bike to a hybrid bike?

Posted on 23rd August 2010 by admin in hybrid bike

I have a Giant Boulder SE 26inch mountain bike that I currently use ocassionally, however I would like to start using it on my 5 mile commute to college. Is it possible to make this bike more road friendly by changing it into a hybrid bike and if so how would I go about doing that?

Just put a smoother narrower tire on your bike. You’ll be amazed at the result.

Also, try not to go smaller than a 26×1.3 – you still need enough tire under you so you can hit a pothole or hop a curb.

Enjoy!

What is difference between touring, mountain, comfort, road, and hybrid bikes.?

Looking for light and easy bike type for mostly city biking, with perhaps a little off-road, but not much.

Touring: A bike made for long distance riding on the road.

Mountain: Depending on what kind of mountain biking you will be doing, it will be XC, FreeRide, CrossCounty, and DownHill. These bikes aren’t mean for road.

Comfort: Is a bike that you ride around the park or along the coastline. (Cruiser)

Road: Is a bike built for speed, and meant for racing. Good for training for mountain biking.

Hybrids: Probably the best bet for you, they are meant for road, and some light offroading. I think you will be happy with a hybrid.

Sunlite Cloud-9 Bicycle Suspension Comfort Saddle?.help!!!!?

Posted on 23rd August 2010 by admin in comfort bicycle

seems to be a bit narrower than those monster wide seats, but great reviews? is wide always better? just got a trek pure and the seat was not nice after 7 miles, what would make the biggest change for a longer ride…gel?wide?what?…

thanks mike…

The most important matter is that it fits your backside, especially your pelvis. Those two contact points have to be in the right place.

Wider may make you splay out your hips, which would end up being quite painful.

Also, the really cush saddles may feel good when you just sit, but they move around too much when you are pedaling.

Take your bike to a good bike shop. Have them mount a saddle or two and adjust it properly. Take it for a spin around the parking lot. Little adjustments make big differences.

Best of luck.

What are decent hybrid bikes for about $200???

Posted on 13th August 2010 by admin in hybrid bikes

I’ve decided to buy a hybrid because its comfortable like a mountain bike and has the speed of a road bike. But I don’t know which brands are good and if any bike shop has any for this cheap. Help???

I will recommend a Schwinn, but not the ones at the department or sporting goods stores. Do yourself a favor and avoid such places for a bicycle. http://www.schwinnbike.com/products/bikes_detail.php?id=747
Go to their web site and find a bike shop near you that sells Professional Schwinn. Performance Bicycles have them on sale now for under $300 — in your price range but not $200 even. So if you can muster a few more dollars, you will get a good entry level bike that you will enjoy riding. I did.

Bicycle clothes comfort?

Posted on 13th August 2010 by admin in comfort bicycle

Do you ever sleep in your bicycle clothes since they are so comfortable?

If I’ve been cycling before hand, the answer would be no.

What with cycling knicks having close comfort with the skin, and the issue of sweating, it wouldn’t be the best idea.

What brand do you recommend for a hybrid bike- Raleigh, Cannondale, Giant, Trek, Bianchii, Specialized?

Posted on 13th August 2010 by admin in hybrid bike

What brand do you recommend for a hybrid bike- Raleigh, Cannondale, Giant, Trek, Bianchii, Specialized. All priced between 300-400. Cannondale is at 400 while all the other hover around 300. Please rank in order from best to worst (any any ties in-between) as well as any other input you have. Of course I need to test ride them all, I know that.

Thanks so much

"Which is a better bike, a Trek or a Specialized?

Or Cannondale or Orbea or Scott or Schwinn or Cervelo. We’re asked "Which brand is better?" almost daily. While each brand has its diehard fans, we can’t answer the question. It’s not because of any political reason, but because it’s not the right question to ask–you’re buying a bicycle, not a brand. .."

Help with purchase of bicycle, narrowed down to three (hybrid) please?

Posted on 13th August 2010 by admin in hybrid bicycles

I am trying to decide between 3 different bicycles…

First choice is the Cannondale Adventure 4 for $450.

Second is the Specialized Crossroads Elite for $480.

Third is the Trek 7200 for $480.

If you could tell me which you would choose and why I would appreciate it.

Thanks.
The price of the Trek 7200 may be wrong.

Cannondale is an American company, the other two outsource their labor to other countries. Cannondale is also a great bike, I have not idea what that other user is talking about.

Also I know that you said that these were your options, but you could get a bike that was just as good for less from a different company. Try: Raleigh, Giant, or I commute to work on a Jamis Explorer, that I love.
